[August 2006] Dragonmobility shortlisted for Innovative Business of the Year Award

Startup awards finalist Dragonmobility Ltd, has been short-listed for Innovative Business of the Year, one of the categories in the Startups of the Year Awards 2006 sponsored by StartUps.co.uk and NatWest bank. The short listing judges were impressed by Dragonmobility's concept and potential, placing the business among a handful of lucky finalists selected from hundreds of entries.

Dan Everard, Managing Director of Dragonmobility commented: 'We are thrilled to be a finalist in the 'Innovative Business' category and very much look forward to the event in October. It's great that the unique nature of our products has been recognised by Startups.co.uk and the judges. We expect that this will help to make individuals and health and disability advisers more aware of how early and appropriate mobility can benefit users.'

Dan remarked that he is 'delighted that Dragonmobility is in with a chance of winning not only the Innovative Business category but also the much-coveted 'NatWest Startups Business of the Year' prize.'

The company's founder and product designer then expressed his thanks for 'the dedication and hard work of our high-quality staff.' Dan also commented that he is 'very conscious of the network of other small businesses that contribute the component parts, finishing processes and services that help to make our products so special'.

The company hosted a barbeque for staff, sub-contractors and other local supporters on Friday 1st September from 2pm at the company's premises as a way of thanking them for their support and commitment.

Now in its third year, the Startups Awards continues in its quest to recognise, celebrate and reward the UK's best business startups from the 400,000 or so businesses started each year.

[September 2005] Déjà Vu: Of Old and New

September 21st & 22nd saw the return of the Independent Living Exhibition in London at a shiny new venue, Alexandra Palace. In fact it had been the venue for Naidex many years ago and so was a scene of déjà vu for Dan and Lou who were returning to a place where they used to exhibit the trusty Turbo!

It was at this event however, a year ago, that the Dragon was first launched in the UK. Since then its position amongst top-quality elevating powered wheelchairs has not only got stronger but it has seen the introduction of it's younger brother and sister, the DragonFly and SnapDragon.

Apart from these chairs, we gave visitors a never-seen-in-public-before, sneak pre-view of our new standing frame, the Centaur. This can be attached to both the SnapDragon as well as the DragonFly, to allow the same high mobility in a standing position. It is carefully fitted for each person, just as our seats are.

We are looking forward with anticipation to our next exciting exhibition, Kidz up North, which will be taking place at the Reebok Stadium in Bolton on Thursday 24th November 2005. Do come and visit us at stands 57 & 58 and try out our wheelchairs. Or if you can't get there, give us a call, and we'll come to you.

Mobility Roadshow

[July 2005] Dragonmobility launches SnapDragon at the Mobility Roadshow

Dragonmobility opened spectacularly at the Mobility Roadshow with the official launch of the new powerchair the SnapDragon. With its ability to elevate and reach to eye level with their peers as well as sitting down on the ground, it enables children of a very young age to engage more with the world around them. This brought much success and excitement to the small children who had a go on this new chair, many of whom had never driven a powerchair before.

This was the first time that Dragonmobility had attended the Mobility Roadshow exhibition at Donnington Park which opened on Thursday 7th July until Saturday 9th July. It was a huge success, with much we will take from it as we look forward to our next exhibition, Independent Living London 2005 at Alexandra Palace on 21st-22nd September.

We also had visits from two well known people; Tani Grey Thomson DBE (11 times Paralympic Gold medalist) and Lord Snowdon (once married to Princess Margaret, a famous photographer and a leader in working towards disability rights).

Lou at the Exeter Conference

[April 2005] Seeing the Person, not the chair

Lou Everard was invited to be one of the speakers at the International Conference on Posture and Wheeled Mobility which took place at Exeter University on 11-15 April 2005. Lou spoke on 'Seeing the person not the chair' and about family dynamics in a family where there is a disabled child

Naidex 05

[February 2005] DragonFly soars at the Naidex show

DragonFly, one of dragonmobility's powerchair range, is one of the new products to be shown at the Naidex exhibition this year. The exhibition, which this year is combined with Kid E Quip, will be on between 24 and 26 May at NEC in Birmingham. Dragonmobility can be found at stand F134 - come and visit us!

Independent Living London 05

[12 July 2004] The Wheels are in Motion!

It won't be long now before the Dragon will appear in public for the first time.

Its official launch is at Independent Living London, the South East's premier Show for the disabled, the elderly and healthcare professionals. Independent Living takes place at Wembley Conference & Exhibition Centre on September 22 and 23 and admission is free; Dragon II will be on show at Stand F36.

Meanwhile, for those associated with the Jennifer Trust for Spinal Muscular Atrophy, there will be a sneak preview of what is to come, when the family visits the JTSMA annual conference the week-end before this. Ruth will be using her Dragon, and there will be another one available for anyone attending the conference to try out.

The Everard family are long-standing members of JTSMA and greatly appreciate its valuable work both in supporting families with SMA and funding medical research into the condition Ruth is affected by.
